Promoting security and a sense of community in Olympia’s neighborhoods

Our neighborhoods are where the inhabitants of our city go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning; they are where we find our homes. In Olympia we have neighborhoods of tents as well as neighborhoods of houses. While inadequate shelter in Olympia is not a solution, it is a fact.

Regardless of the structure within which Olympians reside, we must strive to create an environment in all of these spaces that is safe and welcoming for those who call Olympia home.

Local leaders must takes steps to ensure that:

  • Neighborhoods are engaged in the local decision-making process,
  • Neighborhoods have access to nearby goods and services,
  • Neighborhoods can be used with joy as distinctive gathering places
